Adaptive Welding Application for Pressure-Vessel Nozzles

Application example using 3D measurement and adaptive control for pressure-vessel nozzle welding.

Workpiece

Spatially curved weld regions such as pressure-vessel nozzle connections.

Production Challenge

Nozzle intersections and similar complex geometries form spatial curves and can vary by batch, making stable multi-layer, multi-pass welding difficult.

Application Approach

The nozzle-to-shell/head intersection is measured in 3D, weld layers and paths are planned, and the joint is re-measured after each pass so the next pass can be corrected for position, torch orientation, and welding conditions.

System Configuration

Welding system combining 3D measurement and adaptive control.

Implementation

Application example from a live project.

Project Facts

The application combines 3D measurement, layer/path planning, and inter-pass correction of position, torch orientation, and welding conditions to accommodate complex geometry and specification changes.

Application Conditions

Similar complex-geometry, multi-layer/multi-pass welding can be assessed after reviewing workpiece conditions.
